Commission on Judicial Conduct

The Kansas Commission on Judicial Conduct was established by the Supreme Court of the State of Kansas on January 1, 1974. The Commission, created under the authority granted by Article III, Section 15 of the Kansas Constitution and in the exercise of the inherent powers of the Supreme Court, is charged with assisting the Supreme Court in the exercise of the court's responsibility in judicial disciplinary matters.

Members

The Commission is comprised of 14 members, including 6 active or retired judges, 4 lawyers, and 4 non-lawyers. All members are appointed by the Supreme Court for a term of 4 years. No member may serve more than 3 consecutive 4-year terms, except that a member initially appointed to serve an unexpired term may serve 3 consecutive 4-year terms thereafter. The members are divided into 2 panels. One panel meets each month. The chair of the Commission chairs one panel, while the vice-chair chairs the second panel.
